RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2013

The Marble and Granite Centre sponsored stone carver Martin Cook’s garden at the centennial RHS Chelsea Flower Show (21-25 May 2013).

Martin’s The Mindfulness Garden, featured two beautiful sculptures made of The Marble & Granite Centre Ltd’s stone which were hand carved by Martin. The Mindfulness Garden reminds visitors to the Chelsea Flower Show of the need to focus in uncertain times, and contrasts chaos and calm through its careful planting and use of natural stone sculptures. The garden features paving made of Woodkirk Yorkstone, and a carved spiral made of Cumbrian blue/black slate. The York stone was carved with lines from Rudyard Kipling’s inspirational poem ‘If’ in Martin’s distinctive lettering style and the slate inscribed with Pythagoras’s verse ‘Learn to be silent. Let your quiet mind listen and absorb. In silence you will see benefit in all things’.

“It was wonderful for me to be making this show garden with the help and support from Stephen Pike and The Marble and Granite Centre. Stephen really understands what my work is all about, and this helped immensely in making ‘The Mindfulness Garden’ a success at the RHS 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.” Martin Cook
