Harpenden Fireplaces

These two classically styled fireplaces are the centrepieces of a new build, private development in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside.

The client, who was initially looking for a finely veined stone fireplace, approached Matt at MA Granite for advice on materials. MA Granite promptly suggested that they consider Lapitec as an alternative high end, high performance material, ideal for fireplace surrounds.

With high heat resistance Lapitec is able to withstand the intense heat of a log burning fire as well as resist staining from ash and the general wear and tear of a family home.

Matt at MA Granite commented:

We saw this as an opportunity to really test the manufacturing and design possibilities for Lapitec. The detail in these fireplaces required the cutting of slim sections and mitred edges which the material dealt with very well. For such a modern and technical material I was pleased to find that the colour range still works well with classical design as well as more contemporary surrounds.

“Lapitec was new to the UK market when we used it at White Ladies", recalls Heather, “although it had already come highly recommended from one of our partners, Garry Brown at Chiltern Kitchens. For us it completely fitted the bill in terms of giving the kitchen a very fresh new look, and we fell in love with the wide range of Lapitec colours and textures on offer.

“We’d love to work with Lapitec again", Syd Abbott added. “What we’ve learned from the White Ladies project is that with Lapitec you can be as adventurous and imaginative as you like. By using Lapitec we can create a really distinctive and unique space; and we’re keen to think beyond kitchens and feature it in a bathroom, fireplace or perhaps even exterior cladding.”
